Before Vicksburg HVAC work starts, make sure the contractor’s quote and the mechanical application describe the same job. “Replace unit” may leave out duct work, alterations or other work that the application records separately.
The City’s mechanical permit page covers additions, replacements, repairs and alterations, including HVAC installation and duct replacement. It requires applying for the mechanical permit before work begins. These are City instructions, not a rule for every property with a Vicksburg mailing address.

This is a consistency check, not equipment sizing or permission to fill in a contractor’s technical declarations. The form’s boiler bands and under-two-ton self-contained-unit entry are not a design method for selecting residential HVAC equipment.
Keep permit charges separate from the installation price
The City lists a $10 mechanical-permit base, with additional costs depending on the work, and $15 per inspection. It does not publish a complete job-specific fee total on that page. Ask the contractor whether the quote includes the actual permit charge, inspections and any required return work.
Local trade credentials and bonds are a different check. Use LSL’s Vicksburg contractor-record guide to verify those records; a bond amount is not a permit fee or a cash guarantee to the homeowner.
Arrange the inspection around the work, not the invoice
The mechanical page asks for relevant permit numbers, requested time/date/place and contractor name when requesting an inspection. Allow at least 24 hours; that is minimum notice, not a promised arrival time. Call 601-634-4528 to confirm which inspections the actual scope needs before work conceals anything the City needs to see.
After inspection, the City marks the card passed or failed. Resolve any failed item and obtain the applicable final status. The page links inspection to issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy, but does not establish that every like-for-like HVAC replacement receives a new certificate. Ask which completion record applies to this job instead of assuming either a paid invoice or an inspection request closes it.
