Vicksburg requires a permit to install or construct a fireplace or stove, and the installation must pass City inspection before use. The device-specific permit page makes approved plans the starting point; buying an appliance does not complete that review.
Match the plan package to the equipment
For masonry construction, ask Building & Inspection what construction information it needs. The page does not supply a single masonry plan that fits every installation.
For a prefabricated model, the City lists:
- manufacturer name and model number;
- specifications;
- BTU rating;
- input BTU rating of all appliances served; and
- approving testing agency.
For a gas unit, add a sketch of the existing gas line and its length from the meter. Keep those labels intact when asking the designer or installer for documents. A product brochure may identify the new unit without documenting the existing fuel system.
This is a submission checklist, not a gas-sizing or installation method. The responsible professional and City reviewer must resolve what applies to the selected equipment.
Resolve gaps before accepting “permit included”
Use this LSL handoff check when reviewing a proposal:

The City says additional permits may depend on the work and that the permit cost is based on project cost or valuation. This article does not turn that statement into a flat fee.
Schedule the inspection before planning first use
Request inspection at 601-634-4528, supplying the permit numbers, inspection type, desired date/time, location and contractor. Allow at least 24 hours under the published inspection instructions. Confirm the appointment; advance notice is not a guaranteed slot.
The general City page describes a pass/fail entry on the inspection card provided with the permit. Keep the result with the approved plans. If the result requires correction, ask the department what must be corrected and reinspected before treating the installation as approved for use.
A fireplace inspection does not by itself settle a separate gas, electrical or other permit. Ask the reviewer which associated inspections the approved scope requires.
Contact details and source check
The dedicated Building & Inspection contact page lists 819 South Street, weekday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. hours, and inspection@vicksburg.org. The fireplace page agrees on that address; the general inspection page still says 805 South Street. Call before visiting rather than relying on the conflicting older paragraph.
