For a previously issued Mississippi title that is lost, stolen or damaged, DOR publishes two replacement routes: Form 78-006 with a $9 fee and Form 78-026 with a $39 fast-track fee. They use different mailing addresses. Choose the route before sending the application; DOR says a regular application already submitted cannot be switched to fast track.
This comparison concerns replacement of an existing Mississippi title, not first-time titling, a disputed ownership record or correction of a wrong field. Both official forms say to apply only when you are certain a previous Mississippi title existed.

The figures and mailing destinations come from both pages of the standard form and fast-track form. The delivery restrictions come from DOR’s fast-track procedure. The fee difference is $30: $39 minus $9. That is the expedited-processing premium, not a travel, postage or third-party-service quote.
Separate processing from delivery
The title hub currently describes standard issuance as typically within six weeks after DOR receives a complete application. The FAQ still says three–four weeks. These displayed estimates disagree; do not plan a sale around the shorter one.
Fast-track processing is described as within 72 hours after the central office receives the application and supporting documents. Mailing time is excluded. Wrong-address applications lose expedited processing, and DOR says the fast-track fee is not refunded in that situation. Incomplete paperwork is rejected and must be resubmitted correctly.
For hand delivery, the procedure identifies the Title Bureau at 500 Clinton Center Drive, Clinton. A Warren County visit to obtain a form is not the same as delivering a fast-track application to DOR.
Signatures and liens can determine who receives the title
Read the reverse of the chosen form, not just its front. It addresses joint ownership, a lien remaining in DOR’s system and delivery to someone other than the owner. Names joined by “and” require both signatures. The fast-track form requires photo identification in person and states that both joint owners must attend or provide power of attorney; confirm the appropriate authorization documents rather than assuming the short FAQ’s attendance summary covers every situation.
A title showing an unreleased lien is not simply mailed to the owner because the owner pays the replacement fee. Follow the form’s lienholder/release instructions. Our lien-release guide explains why payoff evidence and the state’s title record are separate.
If the original turns up later
Both forms say the original becomes void when the replacement is issued and must be returned to DOR if found. Do not keep two versions in circulation for different buyers. Retain a copy of the application and delivery evidence, and compare the resulting title’s VIN, owner and lien information when received.
