A KUA residential start can involve an up-front deposit, charges on the first bill and optional or conditional field-service costs. Adding every fee into one “move-in price” would hide those differences. The four examples below preserve the payment stages and do not predict a complete first bill.
Which amount belongs where?
| Selected item | Amount | Timing or condition |
|---|---|---|
| Residential deposit | At least $340 when a deposit is required; residence history may produce more | Due up front; KUA determines the amount and any accepted alternative |
| New initiation/service charge | $15 | First bill; count once, not again as transfer or vacation turn-on |
| City of Kissimmee sanitation service charge | $20 | First bill, only where applicable |
| Field trip | $100 | Conditional, not an automatic charge for every application |
| Same-day service paid after 5 p.m. | Additional $100 | Conditional on the request and availability |
The January 2026 billing-information page identifies first-bill charges and the greater-of-$340-or-two-months-average deposit rule. KUA’s separately linked fee schedule, effective May 2023, specifies the prior 12-month residence average when available, up-front timing and the availability condition. The current rate-and-procedure index links both documents; their effective dates are not interchangeable.
Four selected-charge calculations
| Assumption | Calculation across the relevant stages | Selected sum |
|---|---|---|
| KUA waives the cash deposit | $0 + $15 | $15 |
| KUA requires the minimum deposit | $340 + $15 | $355 |
| Minimum deposit and applicable City sanitation charge | $340 + $15 + $20 | $375 |
| Minimum deposit and both conditional $100 charges | $340 + $15 + $100 + $100 | $555 |
The last example deliberately excludes sanitation to isolate the two conditional charges; including an applicable $20 would make $575. Neither figure is a maximum: a higher required deposit or unmodeled charges can increase the amount. The $355 example combines $340 up front with $15 on the first bill; it is not a claim that both are payable together.
Replace the deposit assumption with KUA’s decision
The new-service page says a soft credit check can affect whether a deposit is required. The fee schedule also lists a qualifying residential-customer guarantee as an alternative. These are KUA decisions, not waivers that an applicant or this article can grant.
For a hypothetical residence whose available 12-month average is $200, two months equal $400, exceeding the $340 minimum. Substituting that deposit into the simple start scenario gives $400 + $15 = $415 across stages. This is LSL arithmetic, not an observed account. When history is unavailable, ask KUA for its assessed amount rather than entering zero into the model. Deposit terms
Prepare the application, not an assumed activation date
KUA directs new residential requests through its portal and asks for government-issued photo identification, a lease or ownership proof, and a management agreement when applicable. Keep the utility’s deposit decision and fee explanation with the first bill; do not share identity documents in a public worksheet. Application route
LSL rechecked the two-page fee schedule, page 8 of the 2026 tariff, the rates index and new-service page on September 20, 2026. We independently added the scenarios without accessing an account, running a credit check or submitting an application. Consumption, recurring charges, taxes, balances, reconnection and other account-specific amounts are excluded. Payment does not establish same-day availability or an energized-service time.
