At the OUC Orlando residential rates in effect since October 1, 2025, the service, non-fuel, and fuel components calculate to $76.25 at 500 kWh, $134.00 at 1,000 kWh, and $204.25 at 1,500 kWh.

Those figures are not complete bills. They exclude taxes, water, wastewater, other-agency charges, account balances, credits, fees, and any different rate plan or service class.

Rate check: September 12, 2026. OUC’s service-rates page also lists DemandLevel charges for November 2026, expressly pending Florida Public Service Commission approval. Those prospective charges are not part of this calculation. Recheck the official schedule before using the examples for a later bill.

The current inputs

OUC’s Orlando rate sheet publishes these residential inputs:

ComponentCurrent Orlando residential rate
Electric service charge$18.50 per month
Non-fuel base, 0–1,000 kWh6.783 cents/kWh
Non-fuel base, above 1,000 kWh9.283 cents/kWh
Fuel charge, all modeled kWh4.767 cents/kWh

The current service-rates page identifies October 1, 2025 as the effective date and links the Orlando schedule separately from the St. Cloud schedule.

We converted cents to dollars by dividing by 100. Each calculation applies the lower non-fuel rate to the first 1,000 kWh, the upper non-fuel rate only to usage above 1,000, and the fuel rate to every modeled kWh.

Three reproducible calculations

UsageFixed serviceNon-fuel calculationFuel calculationCalculated components
500 kWh$18.50500 × $0.06783 = $33.915500 × $0.04767 = $23.835$76.25
1,000 kWh$18.501,000 × $0.06783 = $67.831,000 × $0.04767 = $47.67$134.00
1,500 kWh$18.50$67.83 + (500 × $0.09283) = $114.2451,500 × $0.04767 = $71.505$204.25

Totals are rounded to the nearest cent after combining the published rates. The 500-kWh usage components contain half-cent results; rounding each component first can produce a different displayed sum. At 1,500 kWh, only the final 500 kWh receives the upper non-fuel rate. The lower tier does not disappear when usage crosses the threshold.

Why the second 500 kWh costs more in this model

Subtract the modeled totals:

  • from 500 to 1,000 kWh: $134.00 − $76.25 = $57.75;
  • from 1,000 to 1,500 kWh: $204.25 − $134.00 = $70.25; and
  • difference between increments: $70.25 − $57.75 = $12.50.

Fuel costs the same 4.767 cents per kWh in both increments. The fixed charge does not repeat within one modeled billing period. The entire $12.50 difference is:

500 × ($0.09283 − $0.06783) = $12.50

That is a tier calculation, not evidence that a particular household used more energy or that its total bill rose by that amount.

What these figures exclude

OUC’s bill guide separates electric service, fuel and non-fuel charges from other fields that can appear on an account. We excluded:

  • gross-receipts, municipal, sales, or discretionary taxes;
  • water and City wastewater charges;
  • other-agency charges;
  • solar or other credits;
  • deposits, initiation, reconnection, testing, late, or other fees;
  • past balances and payments;
  • billing-period differences; and
  • any time-differentiated, commercial, St. Cloud, or future rate.

The OUC tariff, sheet 5.010, describes distinct tax categories, including sales-tax provisions for non-residential customers. That is not a reason to apply every listed tax to a residential account. No regional tax percentage was inferred here.

How to reproduce the result for another usage level

For usage at or below 1,000 kWh:

$18.50 + (kWh × $0.06783) + (kWh × $0.04767)

For usage above 1,000 kWh under this schedule:

$18.50 + (1,000 × $0.06783) + ((kWh − 1,000) × $0.09283) + (kWh × $0.04767)

Before using either expression later, verify that OUC still identifies the same schedule and effective date for the address and service class.

The OUC tier calculator in our utility research index applies these same inputs and shows the component breakdown for another usage level within its stated range. It does not ask for account details or predict a complete bill.

Methodology and limitations

Local Service Ledger rechecked the Orlando rate overview, service-rates page, residential bill-guide sections and tariff sheets 5.010 and 5.100 on September 12, 2026. The tariff review was limited to those two sheets, not the complete 509-page compilation. The fixed/non-fuel sheet is effective October 1, 2024; the fuel sheet and rate overview identify October 1, 2025. Those effective dates do not establish when the files were published.

The calculator’s automated tests reproduce the three totals and $12.50 tier effect, retaining published precision until the final display.

We did not access an account, sample bills, calculate an average, determine taxes, or predict consumption. “Month” in the fixed-charge label is taken from the published schedule; the examples do not assert a particular meter-reading period.
