A dark streetlight and a failed traffic signal do not have the same maintenance route in Brandon. City streets, drainage features and traffic signals fall within the Streets & Drainage Division’s published scope; power companies maintain streetlights. Brandon can relay a streetlight report to the provider. Division responsibilities

For an emergency or after-hours Public Works issue, the City lists 601-824-4579. Its online Citizen Request form is for non-emergency reports and is not continuously monitored. Do not leave an urgent condition waiting in that form. Public Works contact instructions

The responsibility column comes from the division page. LSL added the observation prompts to reduce ambiguity. This is not an ownership map: a mailing address alone cannot establish that a particular road or drain is City-maintained.

Make the report locatable

From a safe place, take one wider photograph showing the location and a second showing the visible defect if useful. Include when you observed it. “Water covers the eastbound lane beside the inlet” describes evidence; “the City pipe has collapsed” asserts a diagnosis the photograph may not establish.

For a routine request, use the Citizen Request link on the Public Works page. Keep your submitted description and any reference number. If Brandon redirects the report, ask which agency or provider should receive it and carry forward that location information rather than starting with an unexplained photograph.

A provider referral is particularly important for streetlights: the City may pass along a report without being the organization that repairs the light. Conversely, do not send a traffic-signal problem to a power company merely because the equipment is electrical.

A repair estimate is not an appointment

The division describes a broad pothole-repair timeframe, not an address-specific booking. Ask for the status of your request before treating general website wording as a promised repair date. Document a continuing or changed condition with its observation date; do not enter traffic or a drainage structure to investigate.

LSL checked both City pages on September 19, 2026. The comparison above combines their maintenance and urgency instructions; no request was submitted and no asset was inspected.
