For a Vicksburg occupancy approval, first identify the building type. The City’s certificate-of-occupancy page uses one department for one- and two-family dwellings, but four for other buildings. A passed trade inspection is not the certificate itself.

Who reviews the final inspection?

The distinction comes from the occupancy page—not the general inspection list. The City describes a certificate requirement for erected or modified buildings and changes in building or land use. Ask Building & Inspection which approval applies to the actual project.

Before booking, identify the reports still missing. Use one line per applicable department: report date; accepted or corrections needed; unresolved item; reinspection requested. This LSL check keeps a missing report from being mistaken for a completed final review.

Two prerequisites that can hold up release

The City occupancy instructions put applicable fee payment before final inspection. For commercial use, the business-license application must be made before the certificate can be released.

Ask the department to identify any unpaid charge and, for commercial premises, confirm the license-application record. A paid contractor invoice does not tell you whether either City requirement is satisfied.

Request the inspection with the permit details

Call 601-634-4528. The inspection instructions request inspection type, relevant permit numbers, desired date and time, location and contractor name. They say to allow a minimum of 24 hours; that is notice, not a guaranteed appointment.

Keep the permit-issued inspection card available and retain the recorded pass/fail result. Ask which inspections apply to unfinished trade work before requesting the final occupancy review.

From a correction report to the certificate

Each inspecting department sends its report to Building & Inspection. If deficiencies remain, correct them and request another final inspection. The City describes telephone notification approximately two days after satisfactory inspections that the certificate is available; this is not a two-day approval promise.

Before relying on a completion claim, ask for the actual certificate and check its property, permitted use and any conditions. Do not substitute the application receipt or a contractor’s statement that the inspector visited.

A temporary or partial certificate is a separate City decision. The page describes hardship cases involving essentially completed site work, unavoidable delays and a performance obligation for remaining corrections. It is not an automatic extension or permission to move in.

Where to confirm the last outstanding item

The department contact page lists 819 South Street, inspection@vicksburg.org, and weekday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. hours. Older inspection prose says 805 South Street; use the dedicated contact record and call before visiting.

LSL checked these City pages on September 13, 2026 and assembled the department/prerequisite comparison. We did not apply for a certificate, arrange an inspection or establish a property’s occupancy status. These instructions concern City of Vicksburg authority, not unincorporated Warren County.
