Before comparing a Pinellas tow bill, identify private-property trespass towing versus police-directed towing, then the vehicle class. The County’s June 16, 2026 table gives different rates for those events; its July changes and later effective dates also matter. Current rate page
Compare like charges, not just the final total

LSL calculation: half of the displayed $175 Class A private-property base rate is $87.50. This is not a classification of your vehicle or an estimate of its total retrieval cost. The older tips PDF’s $147/$73.50 example is not the current comparison.
Keep mileage, storage and any additional fee on separate lines when asking Consumer Protection a question. The County notes some state-authorized fees are outside the rates it sets; an unfamiliar line is a question to investigate, not automatic proof of an overcharge. Rate conditions
Do not apply a future or conditional increase early
The County’s adjustment page said no emergency fuel surcharge was in effect when reviewed September 21. A published mechanism for a possible surcharge is not evidence that it applies to a receipt.
The same page places the first potential CPI adjustment in 2027, with posting by March 1. Recheck the source for the actual event date; do not add an assumed annual increase yourself.
The rate page also announces a November 1, 2026 condition for the additional local-rate warning sign. Preserve the tow date when raising a signage issue; this future condition should not be described as already effective in September. Dated changes
Preserve the transaction while arranging retrieval
The older County tips sheet explicitly covers private-property trespass towing, not police-directed events. Its practical guidance includes using the posted operator number to locate the vehicle, asking about retrieval documents and accumulating charges, inspecting the vehicle, and obtaining an itemized receipt identifying the tow and payment times and locations. It also distinguishes free access to unattached personal items during operating hours from possible after-hours access charges.
For a disputed bill, LSL recommends attaching the receipt, relevant date-stamped rate page and a brief explanation of the specific line questioned. Keep the operator’s stated vehicle class rather than assigning one from appearance. County Consumer Protection lists 727-464-6200 and an official complaint route on its ordinance page.
What this comparison establishes
LSL compared both current County pages and the complete one-page older tips PDF, including its native layout, on September 21, 2026. We reproduced one half-rate calculation. We did not determine liability, adjudicate a fee, inspect signage or independently verify a private vehicle’s class. This article does not instruct readers to delay retrieval while disputing charges.
