Lake County’s July 2026 Britt Road construction award is $1,070,286.13. An older recovery report lists $2.2 million for a combined three-road program. Those numbers describe different scopes; subtracting one from the other does not reveal money left over for Britt Road.
This analysis reconciles the award’s funding and explains the older program label. It is not a current construction-status report. The County’s news index now lists an August 17, 2026 announcement titled “Construction Begins on Britt Road.” The linked release did not load its article text during our September 20 check, so we cannot supply its start details, schedule or access instructions. The earlier no-start discussion describes an older source check; it should not be used as current status.
Reproduce the award’s funding split
The agenda cover in the contract packet, prepared for the July 14 meeting, identifies two funding components:

$744,224.87 + $326,061.26 = $1,070,286.13
For each share, divide the component by $1,070,286.13 and multiply by 100. At four decimal places, the results are 69.5351% and 30.4649%; the table rounds to one decimal percentage point.
The packet’s next page shows both a positive grant entry and an equal negative entry in separate account rows. They are not two different grants. The cover explicitly states one $744,224.87 grant component; counting the amount twice would break the reconciliation with the award.
These figures describe recorded funding, not invoices, reimbursements, money already paid or final cost.
Why the $2.2 million program cannot be used as a contract balance
Project 49 in the 2025 recovery report combines Britt Road with Wolf Branch Road and Round Lake Road. Its scope includes design, right-of-way acquisition and construction. It is not a Britt-only construction account.

The older report marks the combined program “Completed more than 50%.” That label cannot be transferred to the later Britt-only contract. The entry does not allocate progress or the entire budget among the three roads and the different types of work.
Before calculating a remaining balance or a cost change, a reader would need the same project boundary, accounting period and cost categories on both sides. Those conditions are not established here.
What the road-length description leaves out
The two-page solicitation describes approximately 260 feet of road reconstruction, but also culverts, drainage, a baffle box, an underdrain, an outfall, grading and pavement-related work. The agenda cover connects the repair to a Hurricane Milton washout and places it in Commission District 4.
Dividing the award by 260 feet would combine all those elements into a misleading pavement-only price. A useful unit-cost comparison would need itemized quantities and comparable work—not just the length in the project description. This article makes no engineering-performance or contractor-quality finding.
Keep the approval date separate from the status-posting date
The bid detail page records Board approval on July 14, 2026, while its awarded-status timestamp is July 27. The later posting date is not an independently verified field-start date.
The August 17 construction headline is a newer public signal than this procurement record. Consult the County’s current project information before relying on a schedule or road-access assumption. This financial comparison does not establish current percentage complete, change orders, payments, acceptance or reopening.
LSL rechecked the procurement page, the contract packet’s two-page agenda cover, the two-page solicitation, the recovery report’s reporting-period table and project-49 entry, and the County news index on September 20, 2026. We reproduced the funding arithmetic and compared the records’ scopes. We did not review all 194 pages of the contract download, obtain the inaccessible news-release text, inspect the road or contact officials. An absence claim about the entire contract file would exceed that review.
