Compare the storage options before buying

The County says refuse in the management area should stay secured inside a structure until at least 5 a.m. on the designated collection day. If that storage and morning set-out arrangement is not possible, its guidance calls for a bear-resistant container.

The County’s older collection brochure also makes clear that a purchase is not universally required and tells residents to check hauler and local rules for container type and size. 2021 brochure

Use this purchase check:

  1. Confirm the property on the current management-area map.
  2. Describe where refuse is stored between pickups.
  3. Confirm the actual collection day and practical set-out arrangement.
  4. Ask the hauler which containers it can service.
  5. Check any applicable municipal, development or association requirements before ordering.

Do not use the old brochure as a current address lookup

The 2021 brochure includes its own map, a separate caution zone and a historic hauler list. Use the map linked from the current County page for the boundary question; do not assume that every place shown in the old caution zone has the same rules as its ordinance area. Do not treat a product label as collection approval

A container marketed as resistant to wildlife may still need to meet the collection service’s requirements. Before buying, ask your actual hauler: “Can you collect this exact model and size at my address, and what must I do with its locking mechanism on collection day?”

That is LSL’s purchase-verification question, not a County-approved product list or an instruction to alter a lock. Keep the model and the hauler’s answer together so a substitute product is not mistaken for the one discussed.

Keep away from bears and do not handle refuse while an animal is present. Follow current wildlife-authority instructions for a conflict.
