Lake County’s February 2026 driveway-apron application concerns work in the public right-of-way of a County-maintained road. A mailing city does not answer that maintenance question. Confirm the road and work area before using the County form. Residential application
Identify the entrance and its project relationship
The application covers a new driveway, modification to meet County requirements or temporary construction entrance. Identify the property, road segment and any associated building permit. A sketch should make the proposed entrance and surrounding sidewalk, drainage and right-of-way questions understandable; it is not a substitute for a survey or an approved design.
Instead of a ten-stage ledger, use these decision prompts when discussing the application:
| Question to resolve | Why it changes the next step |
|---|---|
| Is the affected road County-maintained? | Determines whether this is the appropriate authority |
| Is this an individual or joint/common-split entrance? | Affects the standard and inspection route |
| Is the entrance associated with a building permit? | Identifies the inspection office specified on the form |
| What sidewalk or drainage feature crosses the proposed entrance? | Helps staff identify the applicable approved detail |
These are LSL’s preparation questions. The County selects the applicable standard and includes it with the issued permit; do not choose a detail solely because it seems easiest to build. Written Public Works approval is required before deviating from the approved sketch. Application and requirements, pages 1–2
Two records support the $50 permit amount
The residential form displays $50, and the adopted FY 2026 schedule independently lists the same amount for a residential access connection. The form’s second page also requires a check payable to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners. Form fee and payment instruction · Fee schedule, PDF page 43
That agreement verifies the published fee row, not the project’s total. Do not add nearby commercial-access or right-of-way charges merely because they appear in the same schedule. Ask which separate charges, if any, apply to the actual scope and confirm current payment instructions before filing.
Route the inspection before calling it complete
| Circumstance stated on the form | Inspection contact |
|---|---|
| Driveway associated with a building permit | Building Services: 352-343-9634 |
| Joint/common-split driveway, or no associated building permit | Public Works: 352-253-6019 |
If a joint driveway is also tied to a building permit, describe both facts and ask which office should receive the request; do not resolve the overlapping descriptions by ignoring one. Obtain the inspection result rather than treating a booking or completed construction as approval.
The form’s one-year clock begins at approval, not submission. It also expressly leaves zoning, land-use and site-improvement rights separate. Keep the issued permit, applicable standard and any other required approvals together, with their own dates and scope.
LSL checked the two-page application and the relevant adopted fee row on September 20, 2026. We did not inspect a road, design an apron, determine boundaries, calculate construction cost or obtain an address-specific County decision. Use the County’s assigned detail for dimensions and drainage design, not an abbreviated article transcription.
