For Stow work that needs a framing inspection, the City’s inspection guidance identifies a specific dependency: mechanical and electrical inspections must be approved first. Booking framing on the contractor’s calendar does not resolve an unfinished trade inspection. Standalone inspection chapter
Stow also publishes conflicting building-inspection notice periods. Confirm the timing with the Building Department instead of assuming that either a saved PDF or an online request guarantees an appointment.
Two instructions give different notice periods
| Published instruction | Building-inspection timing |
|---|---|
| Standalone Chapter 6, page 1 | Requires 24 hours’ notice |
| Combined residential guide, page 25 | Describes same-day inspections when called in before 9 a.m. |
Both documents list 330-689-2729 for Building and 330-689-2728 for the inspection voicemail. The live Building Code & Permits page independently confirms the Building Department number. Ask which scheduling instruction applies to your permit; LSL has not confirmed appointment availability or which document supersedes the other. Standalone chapter · Residential guide, pages 25–27
Prepare the permit number, property address, requested inspection type, contractor or homeowner name and callback number. A useful request adds the readiness question: “Have the prerequisite inspections for this stage been approved, and what must remain accessible for this visit?”
Plan around approvals, not just visits
For the framing dependency described by the City, use this compact scheduling aid:
Mechanical approval + electrical approval → framing inspection request → framing result and any corrections.
This is not a complete construction schedule. The residential guide separately lists rough plumbing and later insulation and final inspections. Ask the City to identify the inspections that apply to the permitted scope rather than copying every item into a small repair job. Residential inspection sequence
For each required inspection, distinguish requested, scheduled, result received and correction resolved in your own calendar. These are LSL tracking labels, not claimed Stow portal statuses. A completed visit may still leave a correction that affects the next trade’s work.
Engineering is a separate call
The standalone chapter assigns driveway approaches, city sidewalks, storm-sewer tie-ins and final grading to Engineering at 330-689-2719, with 24 hours’ notice. Its grading/bond-release checklist includes site completion conditions; a passed electrical inspection does not answer those questions. Engineering section, page 2
Ask which department must inspect the specific work before scheduling backfill, paving or final cleanup. Include the permit and the location of the work in the request so staff can distinguish a building inspection from a site-work inspection.
Use the live portal without treating submission as acceptance
The City’s Permits and Applications page links its OpenGov service and says users can request inspections, communicate with staff and receive documents there. It also explains the account/profile requirement. Start from that City page rather than a third-party permit link.
After submitting, check for a confirmation or staff response and retain the inspection result. For dwelling occupancy, the residential guide requires a passed final inspection; do not substitute an earlier trade approval for that decision. Residential guide
LSL compared these instructions on September 20, 2026, including the native inspection pages. The older commercial chapter previously cited by this article still references the 2005 plumbing code, so it is no longer used as current residential guidance. This revision adds the notice-period comparison, the framing dependency and separate scheduling routes; it does not certify construction or authorize occupancy.
