Smithville’s three-bag weekly allowance is not permission to put any oversized item at the curb. Bulk collection has separate preparation and advance-reporting requirements—and the Village’s posted fall date is still October 20, 2025, not a confirmed 2026 collection date. Match the item to the preparation rule
Use this comparison before arranging collection. Measurements describe the item after preparation, not the original object before it is cut or bundled.
| Item or load | Published preparation | Question to resolve before setout |
|---|---|---|
| Large item | Four-foot sections; no more than 50 pounds; heavier items broken down | Can the actual item be safely prepared, and has pickup been arranged? |
| Upholstered item | Wrapped and sealed in plastic | Which item is being collected, on what confirmed day? |
| Listed carpet, limbs, gutters, downspouts or swing-set material | Sections no longer than four feet, bundles 18 inches wide and under 50 pounds | Does the specific material qualify despite the separate construction-debris exclusion? |
| Loose material | Properly bagged or bundled | Is the material itself accepted, rather than merely packaged correctly? |
The Village rejects 55-gallon drums, barrels and cardboard boxes as containers. It directs residents to report all bulk items to the hauler before pickup, at 1-800-201-0005. Detailed preparation instructions
An appliance tag does not settle acceptance
The service page has a conflict worth resolving before paying for preparation. Its refrigerant paragraph describes technician removal and tagging for appliances including air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Its separate rejected-items list also names air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Do not treat a tag as a guarantee that either appliance will be collected. Ask the hauler about the exact appliance and obtain the current acceptance route first. Do not attempt refrigerant removal yourself. Both statements on the Village page
That distinction also matters for renovation leftovers: cutting or bundling an item does not override a material exclusion. The page’s rejected categories include construction/demolition debris, hazardous materials, tires, batteries and paint/oil.
Confirm a day, not just a season
The Village describes spring and fall large-item pickups, but its displayed fall date was already past when LSL checked on September 20, 2026. We did not verify another event date. Do not advance the year on the old notice or assume the same weekday will recur.
For ordinary service, the homepage reminder says three 30-gallon bags per week. That allowance is a different service condition from a scheduled bulk collection.
Before the call, have the item name, dimensions, estimated weight and material ready. Ask: “Is this accepted for my address, what preparation is required, and what is the confirmed collection date?” For an appliance, add the model/type and ask how the conflicting exclusion applies. These questions distinguish an accepted item from one that is simply small enough to lift.
Review scope
LSL read the Village’s service page and homepage on September 20, 2026 and compared their preparation rules, exclusions and date claims. The table and call questions are LSL’s synthesis. We did not contact the hauler, reserve collection, weigh an item or verify an individual address. The outdated date and appliance conflict remain unresolved, not silently corrected.
