Standing water near a Monroe home can be difficult to classify from appearance alone. The City’s directory gives different routes for drainage, sewer and water problems; its water-system page separately lists the water-distribution contact. City directory Water system

Start with what you observed

Report typePublished Monroe contactUseful description
Street drainage concern318-329-2209Location, rainfall timing and visible obstruction
Sewer concern318-329-2392Where the problem appears and whether fixtures are affected
Water-distribution concern318-329-2385Visible flow, service interruption or water-quality observation

These routes do not diagnose the liquid or establish who owns a damaged pipe. If uncertain, explain the uncertainty and ask staff to classify or redirect the report.

Do not enter standing water, open a utility structure or approach a possible electrical hazard to obtain better evidence.

For service activation or disconnection, the water system separately lists 318-329-2220 under Utilities Services. That is not the water-problem number in the table. Use the City water-start guide for the application and current-office question. Utility-services contact

Preserve the handoff

Record the date, contact route, reference number and instructions given. If the report moves to another department, retain both references so the next conversation does not start from scratch.

Ask whether staff need a safe-location photograph or another observation. A request acknowledgement is not confirmation that a repair has been completed.

For proposed private work, keep the utility or department response with the contractor’s scope. A general City phone directory does not certify that excavation or a particular repair is necessary.

This guide applies to the City of Monroe, Louisiana. West Monroe and unincorporated Ouachita Parish have distinct authorities; a Monroe mailing address alone should not be used to assume the same municipal service route.

LSL rechecked the City directory and water-system page on September 13, 2026. These are two City sources, not independent verification of a pipe problem; no call, site inspection or service response was observed.
