St. Petersburg’s current compost program requires an in-person workshop before an eligible household receives a bin. It is for single-family residential customers inside the incorporated city—not every address using “St. Petersburg” in its mailing address. City program

At this September 21 review, the City still lists a September 23 workshop, but its five-business-day advance registration window has already passed. That is LSL’s calendar comparison, not a test of the booking system. Use the live list for a later date; a listed workshop does not prove registration remains open or a seat is available.

Settle eligibility before the trip

The City warns that registrants outside city limits or in multifamily housing will not receive a bin even if they register for a workshop. Existing compost-program participants may attend for education but do not receive an additional bin. Eligibility and workshop instructions

Before choosing a session, answer three separate questions:

  • Does the property meet the incorporated-city and single-family conditions?
  • Is this the household’s initial bin, rather than a request for another?
  • Can someone attend the workshop and take the bin home afterward?

If any answer is uncertain, resolve it with the program before arranging transport.

Work backward from the class

Registration closes five business days before each class, and class size is limited. Use the linked registration page to check its actual cutoff and availability; do not wait until the evening of the workshop.

The City’s registration instructions use an existing or new Parks and Recreation account, a search for Composting, selection of the desired date and location, and a reservation followed by email confirmation. Check that confirmation against the intended class before arranging transport. We did not log in or reserve a place.

The City describes the bin as approximately 33 inches wide at its base and 33 inches tall. Check the vehicle’s usable opening and space, not just its advertised cargo capacity. This is a transport-planning suggestion, not a guarantee that a bin fits a particular vehicle.
