Oviedo’s tree FAQ separates canopy trees from palms, fruit trees and understory varieties such as crape myrtle. Its permit instruction concerns canopy-tree removal within City limits; it is not a rule based solely on whether a tree looks large.
Start with classification, not a removal invoice
The City FAQ directs permit requests to cwenner@cityofoviedo.net. If classification is uncertain, send the location and the identification evidence available and ask which route applies. LSL suggests a whole-tree photograph plus clear leaf or bark details, but does not identify species remotely or present that photo set as a complete City application.
The FAQ’s examples do not establish that every ornamental tree is exempt. Nor does its general canopy instruction eliminate the separate Florida residential risk-assessment provision. That provision depends on the defined property use and qualifying professional documentation, not simply calling a tree dangerous.
A newer schedule is available
The previous article left the fee unresolved because its cited schedule was labeled FY 2024–25. On September 20, 2026, LSL located an official FY 2025–26 adopted schedule through the City’s Recreation and Parks fee page. Despite that link label, the PDF also contains Development Services fees.
These Development Services rows answer different questions:

The amounts are not added together. Ask which category and additional charges, if any, the City applies to the actual scope. Recheck the schedule when filing, particularly across a fiscal-year change. The newer document does not establish a total project price or how every row combines.
Match the answer to the proposed work
A useful inquiry distinguishes one identified tree from broader clearing, grading or development. If the City requires a permit, retain its actual removal and replacement conditions. If an exception applies, preserve the evidence supporting that exception rather than an unrelated fee receipt.
This review used the relevant FAQ, the newer schedule’s two Development Services pages in text and native layout, and the current statute. It did not submit a permit, obtain an invoice, assess risk or determine a replacement obligation.
