For the work covered by Orange County’s residential-alteration guide, the 290 Final must pass for the permit status to become complete. Paying the permit fee, finishing construction or passing an earlier inspection does not establish that final result. County alteration guide

The closeout task is to reconcile the final inspection result with the permit’s recorded status—and resolve any deadline with the County using the current law, not a generic countdown.

Read the result before treating the permit as closed

What the record showsNext question
No 290 Final resultIs it required and ready to schedule for this permit, and what remains before it can be requested?
A final inspection with correctionsWhat exact correction or document is outstanding, and how should the follow-up inspection be requested?
A passed 290 Final but an unclear permit statusHas the County updated the permit, or does another item remain? Ask about the discrepancy rather than substituting your own “complete” label
An expired permitWhich replacement/reinstatement process and remaining inspections apply? Do not treat an old approval as permission to resume

This is LSL’s reconciliation aid, not a list of official Fast Track status codes. Keep the permit number and actual inspector comments with the question. The alteration page warns that missed closeout can require reinstatement and updated documentation; the Building Safety FAQ directs expired-permit questions to PermittingServices@ocfl.net.

Why this guide does not give every permit a 180-day clock

The County FAQ says permits expire 180 days after issuance or the last passed inspection. But the 2026 Florida statute contains a different rule for a building permit for a single-family dwelling: one year after issuance or the effective date of the next Florida Building Code edition, whichever is later, without preventing a local extension. County FAQ, section 553.79(1)(c)

Those statements must not be collapsed into a universal 180-day rule. Ask the County which classification, issuance date and recorded expiration apply to the specific permit. This article does not determine retroactive application, revive an expired permit or calculate the effective date of a future code edition.

The statute says a local government may send advance expiration notice; do not assume a missing reminder keeps a permit valid. Separately, the FAQ’s description of a possible extension is not proof that an extension has been granted.

Assemble a closeout question the office can answer

Copy the permit number, approved work description, displayed expiration, last inspection type/date/result, and any unresolved comment. Then ask:

Does this permit still require 290 Final or another closeout action? Which expiration rule applies to its recorded classification? If it has expired, what application and remaining inspections are required before the work can proceed or close?

Attach the relevant record only when requested through the appropriate channel. The FAQ directs plan corrections and revisions through Fast Track rather than email; a status inquiry is not a substitute for a formal revision submission.

LSL checked the alteration page, relevant County FAQ sections and the current statute on September 20, 2026. The source comparison replaces the former generic final/expiration ledger. No private permit was examined and no deadline extension or legal opinion was obtained.
