Put the street relationship on the plan

This is a planning comparison, not a finding that a particular segment may occupy an easement or property boundary. Mark segments A, B and C on the survey, then give each a proposed height and material. That lets staff answer a location-specific question instead of approving an indistinct request for “a six-foot fence.”
Describe replacement work precisely
The Building FAQ requires a permit for a new fence. Its repair answer, however, includes sections with posts in the non-permit maintenance description while separately calling support-pole replacement permit work. Those statements overlap. Repair and replacement answer
Do not resolve that ambiguity by calling the whole job maintenance. Tell Building and Fire Safety which panels, posts and supports will change, with photographs if helpful, and ask how the City classifies that scope. Prepare the fence information, not every item for every building project
The March 1, 2024 general application includes a fence checkbox directing the applicant to show height on the survey. Its site-plan checklist calls for three copies and identifies boundaries, easements and improvement locations. It also covers many unrelated construction types; a restaurant’s grease-interceptor item is not a fence requirement. Application and checklist
Use the City’s current filing instructions to confirm delivery. They limit online permit issuance to specified contractor transactions, describe hard-copy or unlocked-USB submissions for plan review, and tell homeowner applicants to apply in person. The existence of Civic Access does not mean every fence application can be completed online. Filing route
If an association governs the property, ask what approval letter belongs in the submission; the checklist includes that item. Keep the private response distinguishable from the City’s permit. Neither your marked-up survey nor a submitted application is an issued permit.
LSL checked the relevant complete FAQ answers, filing page and all four native application pages on September 20, 2026. We did not survey a lot, resolve the repair wording with staff or determine a private property’s permitted fence location.
