Akron’s published 2026 curb-service rows calculate to $298.08 per year for regular service and $161.40 per year for the homestead category. The difference is $11.39 per month, or $136.68 over 12 months.

Those figures multiply two City rate rows. They do not decide whether a customer qualifies, estimate a property-tax benefit, or represent a complete utility bill.

Use the year-labeled rows

The City’s utility-billing page lists these monthly curb-service amounts:

Table yearRegularHomestead
2025$24.34$13.20
2026$24.84$13.45

The section heading still says “2025 CURB SERVICE,” but the table itself contains separate 2025 and 2026 rows. This report preserves that mismatch and uses only the row explicitly labeled 2026 for the current examples.

Reproduce the 2026 amounts

CategoryMonthly rowTwelve-month calculationAnnual amount
Regular$24.84$24.84 × 12$298.08
Homestead$13.45$13.45 × 12$161.40

Category difference:

$24.84 − $13.45 = $11.39 per month

$298.08 − $161.40 = $136.68 per year

These examples assume all 12 months use the same published category. They exclude water, sewer, account adjustments, taxes, prior balances, and other service lines.

The year-over-year change

Holding each category constant:

  • Regular: $24.84 − $24.34 = $0.50 more per month, or $6.00 over 12 months.
  • Homestead: $13.45 − $13.20 = $0.25 more per month, or $3.00 over 12 months.

This is a comparison of table rows, not a statement about what any one customer’s total bill changed.

Connecting the County qualification to the City account

The Summit County Fiscal Office handles the separate homestead exemption application. Its 2026 senior/permanent-total-disability category includes a $41,000 Ohio adjusted household income screen; other listed categories have different conditions. This is not a single eligibility test for every applicant, and the arithmetic above does not calculate a property-tax benefit.

Akron’s billing page specifically asks Akron homeowners who have the County Homestead Exemption to call or email the City using the listed contacts. It requests the customer’s name, address, account number and daytime phone number. Use that published route rather than assuming the County record automatically changes the City bill.

Ask the City when any approved category change takes effect and check the next applicable statement. Neither sending the information nor subtracting the two rate rows promises a $136.68 saving for an individual account.

Source and methodology

LSL rechecked the City rate rows and County qualification page on September 20, 2026. The current County URL replaces a working redirect, not a broken citation. We reproduced the annual amounts and differences in integer cents, multiplying each monthly row by 12 and comparing like periods. No account, application, tax bill or eligibility decision was inspected.
