Fairview Park has two permit forms: one requiring a ten-day posting and one that does not. Describe the whole project to Building before choosing; a roof checkbox does not settle the route for a roof project that also changes the structure.
The Building Department directs applicants who are unsure about forms to call 440-356-4405. It also says the person performing the work must obtain the permit and pay the applicable fees before starting.
Compare what the forms actually ask
| Application | Examples printed on the form | Preparation difference |
|---|---|---|
| Ten-day posting | New construction, alteration, addition, repair and fire damage | Calls for two sets of construction drawings plus a site plan showing existing/new structures and distances from property lines |
| No ten-day posting | Nonstructural remodeling, siding, windows/doors, roofing, paving, waterproofing, sewers and PODS | Provides a work-description field; the absence of the other form’s drawing paragraph does not establish that plans are unnecessary |
Both ask for the job address, estimated cost, contractor and owner information, and applicant signature. Both identify City registration as a contractor requirement. These are form comparisons, not a complete eligibility list.
Send Building a description that includes structural changes, changed footprint and every connected trade. Ask which application and supporting plans match that combined scope. Keep the answer with the version submitted.
The older handout is not a universal posting rule
The linked residential regulations sheet, revised March 5, 2013, describes a ten-calendar-day posting period for plan approval. Read beside the separate no-posting application, it should not be used to tell every applicant that posting is required. Its older technical code references also need current City confirmation.
If Building assigns the posting route
The posted application does not provide fields establishing a notice’s start date, finish date or objections. Ask Building for the actual notice and instructions:
- What event starts the period, and where must the notice appear?
- Which dates will the City recognize?
- How should comments or objections be submitted and resolved?
- What written decision or issued permit is required before work begins?
A dated photograph can document placement; it does not establish that the City accepted the posting or approved the work. Do not calculate authorization from silence or from ten days after downloading the form.
For the separate business-document task, use the Fairview Park registration packet guide.
LSL compared the department page and all three one-page forms/handouts on September 20, 2026. The comparison corrects the earlier implication that the application itself contained posting-history fields. No project was classified, notice posted or permit obtained.
