West Monroe’s remodel application asks for a main contractor’s state-license number and separate local registration numbers for electrical, plumbing and heat/air subcontractors. Those are different fields—not one interchangeable “licensed contractor” checkbox. The City’s form also separates information you supply from approvals and fees entered by its office. Building application
This guide applies inside West Monroe corporate limits, the boundary stated by the City’s Inspections office. A mailing address alone is not that determination.
Divide the application by who supplies the answer
| Part of the form | Information to prepare | Distinction to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Project and property owner | Address, work description, residential/commercial selection, remodel/addition selection, owner and contact details | A scope checkbox does not describe all work or establish approval. |
| Main contractor | Name, contact, commercial/residential LSLBC number, superintendent and job-site contact | Match the contracting entity to the actual state record. |
| Trade subcontractors | Electrical, plumbing and heat/air names with West Monroe registration fields | A main contractor’s number does not fill the separate trade fields. |
| Office-use section | Leave approval and assessed-fee fields for City processing | Site-plan approval, classification, square footage, building fee and plan-review fee are not applicant-issued approvals. |
LSL’s comparison follows the complete City form. When comparing bids, ask who supplies drawings, handles the applications and responds to required revisions. Describe the actual room, structural and trade work; “remodel” alone is not enough to compare two scopes.
Use the Board’s Verify Licensure route for the business name or license number. No individual credential is verified by this article, and no state result substitutes for the City’s project permit.
The fee document supplies amounts—but also a gap
The application itself has blank fee boxes. The department separately links a two-page schedule effective October 1, 2018. Its residential renovation bands are printed as follows:
| Printed valuation band | Listed building-permit fee |
|---|---|
| Less than $25,000 FMV | $60 |
| $25,001–$50,000 FMV | $120 |
| $50,001 or more FMV | $180 |
Exactly $25,000 is not assigned to a band in that printed table. LSL has not supplied a rounding rule or silently expanded the first band. Ask the City how it values the scope and which current fee applies, including values between the printed whole-dollar endpoints.
Additions use a different row: the schedule lists $100 + $0.11 per square foot for a residential addition. LSL’s illustrative calculation for 400 square feet is $100 + (400 × $0.11) = $144 for that building-fee line only. The document separately lists residential plan review at $100 and separate trade charges. This is not a $144 project quote or confirmation that every listed charge applies. Fee inputs and exclusions
Ask about inspections before concealing work
West Monroe’s Inspections page identifies building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical responsibilities but does not publish a complete residential-remodel inspection sequence. Have the City identify which inspections your issued permits require, who schedules them and what must remain visible. A proposed schedule or a finished room is not a passed inspection.
If the scope changes, send the affected drawing or description back through the required review rather than assuming an oral contractor instruction updates the permit. At completion, ask which building and trade records remain open.
The live department page lists building@westmonroe.la.gov and 318-396-2600; the Inspections page lists 318-397-6722. Use these contacts to resolve the fee gap and project-specific process. Building & Development
This page incorporates the former multi-trade remodel guide. LSL checked the complete form, both fee pages, City department and inspection pages and the state verification route on September 13, 2026. We replaced repetitive eight-field closeout lists with the actual form-role comparison, dated fee bands and limited addition calculation. No project was classified, contractor evaluated, application submitted or current invoice verified.
