Before filing a Byram building permit, check that the licensed company, registered company and person submitting the application line up. Byram’s registration form permits only the representatives named on that form to pull permits for the company. A contact name on a project application is not a substitute for that authorization.
Registration, bond and permit charges are different
The City’s posted intake requirements call for a current Mississippi contractor license, a project contract, a general-liability insurance certificate, a bond payable to the City and completed registration before work begins. The annual registration charge is $25. The stated contractor bond is $5,000.
Those amounts are not a combined permit price. The bond instrument states the amount of the obligation; it does not quote what a surety charges to issue it or promise a homeowner that amount in compensation. Ask the issuer about the premium and coverage questions. Project permit fees are separately based on construction value, according to the City; the intake page does not provide a complete fee calculation.
A pre-filing name and scope check

For a license check, begin at the State Board’s official search route, not an advertisement or a copy of an old certificate. The Board also warns contractors to use the licensed name on contracts, bids and permits. LSL did not verify any individual contractor for this article. Describe the work before choosing a permit family
Byram lists remodeling, roofing and mechanical, electrical and plumbing work among its permit categories. The building application also distinguishes choices such as foundation repair, a roof, a remodel and gas or electric utility release.
Do not choose a category merely from a contractor’s marketing description. Describe what changes and ask the City which applications and supporting information it requires. Naming several trades on one form does not establish that every approval has been issued.
If the file does not line up
Ask the contractor to resolve the company or representative discrepancy. Send project-classification and filing questions to the Building Department using 601-372-7791, printed on its application. Keep the City’s response with the same scope you asked it to review.
